About

Senior-level help, without the overheads.

The person you deal with is the person doing the work. No account managers, no call centre.

Eight years in IT, currently Head of IT for a multi-site group, having worked up from sole IT support to leading the function. In that time I have built an IT department up from close to the ground: taken it off an external MSP, moved it onto a cloud-native Microsoft estate, rebuilt the network, overhauled security around zero-trust, and led the IT side of an acquisition. I have run the migrations, built the environments and answered the 5pm "it's all gone wrong" calls, so I know how to get it right and keep it calm.

I take on a small number of projects and support clients alongside my main role. That means you get experienced, no-nonsense help without paying a full agency day rate, and a straight answer every time rather than a sales pitch.

Much of that has been in regulated settings, across legal and financial services businesses working under SRA and FCA regulation. I have taken a business through Cyber Essentials certification, written the GDPR, acceptable use, BYOD and asset management policies behind it, and worked to ISO 27001 principles. That shapes how I work: I am used to controls having to be evidenced rather than just implemented, and to change being planned rather than improvised.

Day to day that has covered Azure and on-premise infrastructure, Entra ID and Intune, Cisco Meraki networking, security tooling, VoIP and contact centre platforms, and an ITIL-based service desk, alongside leading a team, reporting to a board and private equity investors, and owning supplier relationships. I have run tenders, replaced vendors and cut six figures from an annual IT budget. So when I assess someone else's setup or provider, it is from having sat on both sides of that table.

Questions

Good to know

What areas do you cover?

Remote support across the whole UK, and on-site around West Lancashire and the North West, including Skelmersdale, Ormskirk, Wigan, Preston and Southport.

How quickly will you get back to me?

Usually within a few hours on weekdays. If something is urgent, call or WhatsApp me and I will do my best to jump on it.

Do I have to sign a long contract?

No. Everything is pay-as-you-go or rolling monthly, so there is no lock-in. You use me when you need me.

Do you only work with Microsoft?

Microsoft 365, Azure and Intune are my core, but everyday support covers Windows, email, networking and general IT too. If it is business tech, ask me.

Is my data safe?

Yes. I only ever access your systems with your permission, and I follow good security practice on every job. Nothing is touched without you knowing.

Can you help outside business hours?

Some evening and weekend availability by arrangement, alongside standard weekday support. Let me know what you need and we will find a time.

Joe Chapman-Taylor, independent IT consultant

You will be dealing with me, not a call centre.

That is the whole point of working with an independent. There is no account manager, no rotating helpdesk and no junior doing the work while a senior name sits on the proposal. When you call, you get the person who will actually do the job.

It also means I take on a small number of clients at a time, and I will tell you honestly if I am not the right fit for something.
