Merging an acquired company into the group estate

The challenge

Following an acquisition, a sister company joined the group carrying its own entirely separate IT estate: separate identity, separate systems, separate standards, and equipment that had not been modernised in some time. It needed to be absorbed into the group without interrupting either business, and without simply importing the acquired company's problems.

What I did

I acted as technical lead on the integration. That began with assessing the inherited environment honestly: what was worth keeping, what needed replacing, and what represented risk. From there I modernised the parts worth retaining and merged the estate into the group infrastructure stack, bringing identity, devices and security under the same standards already in place. The acquired team were supported through the change rather than simply migrated around.

The outcome

One integrated estate operating to consistent management and security standards, with the acquired business brought up to the group's baseline rather than left as an exception to it.
